Car hire

There are plenty of good car hire services in France, and there are car hire desks in all the airports, with staff who speak english.

You can use your British photo drivers license in France, however you will need an international drivers license if you only have a paper license.

It is important to remember that in mainland Europe drivers drive on the left hand side of the road, and rented cars are left hand drives. French roads are well maintained, and distances are calculated in kilometers.

On the whole roads are well sign posted. However if you are not familiar with the area you are driving in, it is a good idea to get a map as is it easy to get lost on the mountain roads without the aid of a good map.
